Joining the Board of Directors
The LCC Board of Directors consists of five to fifteen individuals representing different backgrounds and fields of expertise. Board members aim to strengthen and support LCC by providing guidance to the Chairman of the Board and other officers and participating in the life of this vibrant organization. Board member qualities include leadership, a desire to participate, a willingness to work and a personal connection to LCC’s mission. Officer positions on the Board include Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Meetings are held monthly between August and June (December and July are excluded), and occur on the third Thursday between noon and 2:00 pm. Members of the organization vote for the Board of Directors at the annual membership meeting held in June.
The Literacy Coalition is actively seeking Board members who can enhance our organization and help us grow. Our ideal Board of Directors should be as diverse as the communities we serve, containing business people, professionals in the field of adult education & literacy, stakeholders in related fields, volunteer tutors, etc. Below is a list of highly valued characteristics, connections, and talents.

As an elected member of the Board of Directors, you agree to:
- Support the mission of the LCC – to promote and foster literacy
- Become a member of the Coalition
- Learn about the LCC operations and programs
- Commit to serve one full term (term length is two years)
- Adhere to LCC bylaws
- Actively participate on or Chair a minimum of one LCC committee
- Attend a minimum of seven of the ten scheduled Board meetings per year
- Prompt others in the community to support LCC
- Serve as an enthusiastic community relations representative
